good morning. thank you for joining us thursday morning. june 6th. i'm pam cook. >> and good morning. i'm dave clark. we're talking about your weather. and you'll notice a change in the weather. a little cooler. steve is in his office. >> one of the greatest forecasts ever. was the d-day forecast. >> yes. >> we had better meteorologists than they did. that was one of the quotes. >> so they had to wait for the weather to break? >> yeah. and they finally got one. it was not easy. that was one of the best ever. we do have a change here for us. it's a cooler forecast for about two days. then right back up we go. tim over here was just asking me. so steve, is it like not locking in, transitory, one day, it's warm. one day it's hot. yes. that's the way it's looking. today and tomorrow, that cooler pattern. fog can wind. cool to nice. and warming up rapidly, saturday into sunday. probably monday, tuesday and then cooler in the next week. that's the way it's looking right now. 50s on the temps. there were a lot more 60s university.

commute is beginning to fill in now. it's not too bad between the carquinez and macarthur bridge. bay bridge, looking at a 10- to 15-minute delay. again, as we've dealt a little east of that on highway 4, we have slowed traffic. 680 looks good from the benicia bridge to walnut bridge in alamo. steve mentioned, that crash has been there for a while. it's a big rig that had a ruptured fuel bank. traffic is getting by. but there is one lane taken away for the tow truck. and it is backed up. marin county looks fine. and as you look at the south bay commute, we're off to a good start. 6:02. let's go back to the desk. president trump joined other world leaders in normandy, france. to commemorate the 75th anniversary of d-day. they honored the troops who landed at omaha beach, on june

highest distinction. time now 6:04. police in san jose, searching for a gunman in an overnight homicide. just after midnight, an officer was on patrol near mcginness avenue and story road and heard gunfire. police quickly found the shooting victim who died there at the scene. it was not far from a school. investigators are still out there, looking for the shooter. and santa rosa police are asking for help. they want to find a gunman who shot three people at a santa rosa park. hundreds of people neared the soccer fields of jacobs park, when the shooting occurred. ktvu's allie rasmus is in santa rosa now. and one of the victims is a 10- year-old boy. allie? >> yes. and santa rosa police say the 10-year-old boy who was hit by the gunfire is expected to survive. a 40-year-old man who was one of the coaches was also shot. but he is expected to be okay. but police say a 20-year-old man who was hit in this gunfire yesterday, he does have life- threatening injuries. we're waiting for an update

from police, on the conditions of the victims this morning. we have reached out to them. but this all happened at jacobs park in santa rosa, around 7:30 last night. the fields, soccer fields, they were packed with hundreds of people. there were practices and games going on that had just wrapped up. witnesses heard some words exchanged at one end of one of the fields. then they saw a man get out of a dark-colored suv and started shooting. >> two of those people waiting there. started saying some stuff to the people. they were saying, like what's up? like using inappropriate language. the guy gets out of the car and starts shooting. >> now, police searched the area on west 9th street and link lane, near the park here in santa rosa. but they were not able to find the suv or any suspects. investigators are asking any witnesses who may have seen what happened to come forward. they're also hoping that people out there may have cell phone video of what occurred. they are offering,

some warriors fans start to worry, with them being 2-1, down in the series. but you gotta give credit to steph curry. he went off in game 3 with coach ker calling him incredible. curry had a play-off career high of 47 points. he had all of his tricks coming out of the bag. 3-pointers, layups, freethrows, even dove for a free ball. ask as much as curry tried to carry the load, it just wasn't enough. >> you said every time we made a run or got the crowd into it, they either made a tough 3 or there was a tough foul call and they slowed the tempo down. or something went their way. so -- >> so now, the warriors find themselves in some trouble. it's clear they really need klay thompson and kevin durant. klay was actually lobbying to play yesterday. but he did sit out with a sprained left hamstring. kevin durant is still out with his injury. and fans are saying they really

want to see those two back in game 4. >> i'm not worried. i got here at 12:30. you know, really early. but you know, i'm not worried. there's no concern. you know, we got a lot of injuries. you know. but the at the end of the day, we've got big dogs, steph curry played really well. we showed a lot of heart. >> the reality is, we really just don't know what is going to happen with klay and durant. they're still up in the air. of course, we're hoping to get some of those answers today before game 4 tomorrow. if those guys do return, it is likely going to be a different outcome. you have to give the toronto raptors credit. they had an answer every time they tried to run. for now, we are live from lake chalet, cristina rendon. fox 2 news. meantime, the nba is investigating a fan who was kicked out of last night's game. fans shoved kyle lowry of the raptors, when the raptors guard

tried to keep a ball from going out of bounds. lawry was asked about that incident after the game the. there's no place for that. he had no reason to touch me. no reason to reach over two seats and then say some vulgar lodge to me. there's no place for that in our league. and hopefully it never comes back to nba game. >> lowry said that fan cursed at him. lowry talked to an arena official. asking for free tickets for herself and a family member for game 6 on june 13th. councilwoman nikki fortonado submitted an online form for that request. saying the reason was to review the facility's ability to attract business and contribute to the local economy.

the value was listed as $312. but on stub hub, those seats are going for $3900. a member of the staff said the posted form was a staff error and it would be corrected. vallejo police are trying to identify four people recorded on surveillance video, firing their guns in a neighborhood. authorities released the video yesterday of last week's shooting. take a look. this is in the area of ohio and mendocino streets, near interstate 80 in vallejo. their target is out of frame and cannot be seen. but the video shows three of the shooters getting into a bmw with the fourth gunman hiding in nearby bushes. investigators recovered more than 30 shell casings at the scene, which is just west of interstate 80, and not very far from solano county superior court. our time is now 6:10. still ahead, a search is under way for a man caught peeping into windows in campbell. take a look. we'll tell you what neighbors who live in this normally quiet

welcome back to mornings on 2. today at the white house, u.s. and mexican negotiators are meeting again to try to prevent new tariffs on mexican imports that are scheduled to start monday. 5 percent import. unless they can do more to stop the -- without a deal, it would go up by 5% a month. >> mexico has been making for many, many years, hundreds of billions of dollars, making an absolute fortune from the united states. they have to step up and step up to the plate. and perhaps they will. we're going to see. we're going to solve the

problem. >> both democratic and republican lawmakers have been critical of using tariffs as an immigration tool. democrats in california are split on whether the party should nominate the candidate who has the best ideas or choose the candidate most likely to defeat president trump at next year's presidential election. the polls said 48% of democratic voters say the party should pick a candidate who could beat president trump. while 42% want a candidate who shares their political views. the chancellor at ucsf is criticizing the trump administration's decision to defund medical research, using fetal tissue. the school could use millions in grants. for the time being, it ends federally-funded research, involving human fetal tissue from elective abortions. a long-time uc sf study, looking into hiv was also not

renewed. >> when a directive such as this eliminates a whole program of research, it will reverberate around the country. no question about it. >> anti-abortion activists applaud the new directives, saying taxpayer money should not be spent on materials obtained from abortion. but scientists say fetal tissue is critical for alzheimer, spinal cord injuries and eye issues. chancellor sam hawgood said they comply with all laws. we believe this decision to be politically motivated, short- sighted and not based on sound science. ellen ta uscher will be remembered. she died at age 67 in april, to computations of pneumonia. she represented the east bay. then went to work at the state

department. the service this afternoon will be held at the loescher center in walnut creek. starts at 2:00 p.m. governor newsom, senator dianne feinstein. and representatives eric swalwell expected to be there. that service, by the way is open to the public. >> a lot of people want to pay their respects, sal. she was a long-time friend here. came in a lot. many times to talk about all the things she was working on. >> yeah. she was on the show quite a bit. and she almost always said yes when we wanted to talk to her. let's take a look at the commute of the east bay in san francisco. and also, marin and south bay, too. first of all, if you're driving from san francisco -- to san francisco from oakland, you will see slow traffic at the bay bridge. this is typical. nothing unusual, though, which is good, if you are used to this commute. it's going to be about the same. 880 in oakland looks pretty good in both directions. southbound 680, driving through

pleasanton. dublin through pleasanton, heading down south. we still have that problem at bernal road. where one lane taken by a tow truck. trying to get a big rig out of there. however, it's taken a while to get it out. you can see how slow traffic is in the area. south bay looks okay. i told you about that grass fire reported northbound 17, just west of camden avenue. i'm sorry. hamilton avenue. fire department is arriving on the scene. so far, it's not affecting traffic on highway 17. 6:18. let's bring steve in. >> thank you, sir. >> all right. we'll get right to it here. we have a cooler pattern today. after two days of warm to hot temps. well, we bring it right back down. nothing is hanging along. the pattern continues to evolve. today is a cooler one. after yesterday. 70s, low. upper 80s and 90s. in fact, livermore, 94. these were all above average. that won't be the case today. 97 today. san francisco down to 62.

from 94 to 78. livermore. and 84 to 73 in san jose. and temperatures, santa rosa. all in the 50s. livermore yesterday this time was around 64 to 65. now, 53. san jose. and oakland a little warmer. but low 50s. santa rosa and san francisco as well. there's the minus 9, compared to this time yesterday. cooler for livermore. and about 3 to 6 for some. san jose is minus 6. also fairfield and santa rosa are off by 5. get that west and south breeze. that's a cooler direction. even a westerly direction sfo to livermore. and these cold temps. that will do it. 51, the water temp in bodega bay. but we drop from 56, 55 down to 53. that is cold. and that makes a huge impact on the overnight lows for the city and much of the coast. that's why they're sitting at 52. water temp is pretty close as well. there is a correlation. we have high pressure being bumped out of the picture here for a couple of days. thunderstorms over the central

sierra. they do fire up. but they're being pushed off more toward the police side. there's a couple of 60s in the mix. most locations are much, much cooler. 52 in gilroy. 51. 49. bolder creek. and 52 on observation south san jose. santa clara, 55. 45 up in truckee. ukiah. but look at monterey. 51 cool degrees. low clouds and fo and onshore, breezy cool pattern today. that system sweeping by. once that goes through on friday. then high pressure will return. but for the next couple of days, we get below normal temps to seasonal temps. that will take us into friday. then guess what? nothing is sticking around. the pattern revolves and high pressure will be back for the weekend. 60s to still upper 70s. low 80s. maybe a few midwell, well inland. but the trend is to take them out of the 90s. 50s, 60s on the coast. low to mid-70s on the peninsula. not much change tomorrow.

is. welcome back to mornings on 2. singer r. kelly is due in court on 11 new sex-related charges. kelly pled not guilty in february to 10 other counts of sexual abuse. against three girls and one woman during a 10-year period starting in the late 1990s. legal analysts doubt this will happen today. but the judge could revoke his bond and order him to jail until the trial begins. a recording of the 911 call has been released from the night former empire actor jussie smollett reported that he has been attacked in chicago. his creative manager called police on the night he was attacked. >> does your friend need an ambulance? >> he -- i just think he's startled. what's really, ma'am, just because i'm scared and i don't know what it is.

they put a noose around his neck. >> the 911 call lasted three minutes. smollett was charged with multiple felony counts after chicago police say he staged what he described as a hate crime attack. prosecutors later dropped the charges against smollett. police are investigating a terrifying robbery at a cell phone store in vallejo. want to show you a video. it was posted on the vallejo police department facebook page. shows a man and a woman, entering a t-mobile store on sonoma boulevard last sunday. the man points a gun at two workers and orders them to the back office. he tells them to lie facedown on the ground. but the robbers steal electronic devices and then escape. the male robber left behind his gun, as he ran out, the weapon turned out to be a bb gun. police in campbell need your help, identifying a man who was caught peeping into a child's window. ktvu's paul chambers spoke with neighbors after showing them surveillance video. >> take a close look at this

video. it shows a man peering into a child's window at a home in campbell. police say the incident happened just before 1:30 monday morning on bismarck drive. >> this wasn't just somebody walking down the sidewalk, looking into a window? it was actually going onto the property. going behind some bushes and looking in. >> take another look. police describe the suspect as a man in his 30s with a goatee. however are there's no mustache. wearing a light-colored, zip-up hoodie and jeans. people living in the area say this is a quiet and safe street. and knowing a prowler is on the loose is quite concerning. especially in an area where a lot of children are playing. >> i think it's really bad for this neighborhood. there's a lot of kids in this neighborhood. >> police say the man ran from the home after being confronted by the child's father. the suspect was last seen running toward phoenix drive on hamilton avenue. if you know anything about this, you're asked to call police. time now, 6:27. landing a job at the future

cools, warms up. and once we get past the middle of next week. looks like the pattern will just kind of level out. today is a cooler one. 50s on these temps. these are much, much cooler than 24 hours ago. livermore is nimuss 9. santa rosa nimus 5 -- minus 5. and when you get fairfield gusting to 30. in june, that's a cooler pattern. i think yesterday at this time, it was about 12 miles an hour. 51 53 the water temps. bodega bay. san francisco, and bowie. that is really cool. that can equal 51 to 52 in the city. if you get a 20-mile-per-hour wind, it is darn cold. inland will still be in the upper 70s. 80s. the sierra has thunderstorm activity. but a lot of that looks to be in the central sierra. 50s for many that were much, much warmer than this yesterday. still inland areas yesterday. it's always tough. once you get june, you get to 90s. it will be cool for just about everybody today.

that system sweeps through today and tomorrow. then it's out of the picture. look for 60s and 70s today. and more. sal is here. and it's been busy. where would you like to start? >> we're going to start in the east bay, steve.  we'll take a look at some of these freeways. this is a look at 80 westbound. and i can tell you, the traffic is going to take 27 minutes to drive from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. then you will see traffic here at the toll plaza that is going to be a little bit slow. so just give yourself a little extra time if you are driving there. we have problems in the east bay i'll tell you about. the new problem on the sunol grade to top off the morning that hasn't been good there. southbound 6 80 at bernal. there's been the truck crash causing slow traffic. now, southbound 680 at sunol boulevard. they just reported an accident a few moments ago with medics on wait. and fire units as well. two problems on the sunol grade. it's 880.

and the south bay commute is beginning to fill in. 6:33. let's go back to the desk. police in santa rosa want your help after several people, including a child, were shot at a crowded soccer field. three people, including a 10- year-old boy were wounded at jacobs park during a heated argument. and a 20-year-old man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. that 10-year-old boy and a 40- year-old man who were both wounded, they are expected to survive. witnesses say there was an argument. then they saw a man get out of a dark-colored suv and start shooting. >> i don't know where these people are from, where they come from. i don't know if it was gang- related. i don't know what was the reason they turned around and started shooting. >> now, the police say hundreds ever people were at the soccer fields when the shooting started about 7:30 last night. it happened near the edge of the park. the police believe at least one of the victims was targeted.

now, police searched the area on west 9th street and link lane near the park. but they weren't able to find either the suv or the suspects. a $2500 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. the warriors trail the toronto raptors now in the nba finals, despite a play-off career high. 47 points from stephen curry. >> here comes curry. curry's shake and bake. 3-pointers. it goes. steph curry with a bounce. >> and many of those for the raptors took advantage of the warriors' depleted lineup because of injuries. despite curry's best effort, the team certainly missed klay thompson and kevin durant who were missing due to injuries. take a listen to what draymond green said during the game. >> nobody cares that guys are hurt. they just want to see us lose. i'm sure people are happy that they're hurt. we just have to continue to battle and win the next game, go back to toronto, win game 5.

come back to oracle, win game 6. and then celebrate. >> that sounds great. the raptors lead the best of 7 series right now, two games to one. game 4 tomorrow night at oracle arena. after last night's game, coach steve kerr said he expects klay thompson to play friday night. thompson watched from the bench because of his strained hamstring. kevin durant hasn't played since 938th because of a strained right calf. if he completes his practice with no issues, he also has a chance to play tomorrow night. earlier today, president trump and french president emmanuel macron spoke at a ceremony honoring the 150,000 troops who landed in omaha beach, normandy, june 6, 1944. a very emotional moment for the surviving d-day veterans who were honored at that ceremony. it was held at the normandy

american cemetery, where more than 9,000 american troops are buried. >> more powerful than the strength of american arms, was the strength of american hearts. these men ran through the fires of moved by a force no weapon could destroy. . >> very emotional speech. ktvu's lauren blanchard joining us live from normandy france. when you're at a very special place with that ceremony with much more on the commemorations that took place. >> yeah, dave. that's exactly right. we are in the american cemetery. now, let me show you. it has been a couple of hours since folks started to clear out of here just because of how far ahead we are in time zones. this is the american cemetery. back there, those chairs. that is where the thousands of americans, europeans, all came together as we mark the 75th

anniversary. d-day invasions. all of these folks were able to watch president trump, as well as the french president, emmanuel macron, as they spoke. they remembered the day what happened here. on this beach, not only here in omaha beach area. but all up and down here. there's five beaches in total that were part of the d-day invasions. they spoke about the veterans, remembered a number of them, were able to shake a few hands, really a touching, touching tribute, dave. >> and we're looking at the pictures you're showing us in that cemetery. what are some of the things that people are telling you directly about their emotions of this day? >> right. well, i have been able to meet a few of these world war ii veterans. these guys are in their 90s. one in particular who stood out to me. a guy named george. he traveled from st. louis. he traveled back. i heard from a lot of these guys, it is the first time they

have been back here since the invasion. since thing having obviously -- it looks completely different. and so what they're saying is, you know, it's a moment to be proud but more of it's a moment to remember those who were killed on that day. and so a lot of them, you know, while everybody here says "you're the heroes," from what i heard from a couple of them was no, it was my brothers that i served alongside with. they were the heroes. so really, really touching stuff to see. also, kids walking up to these elderly gentlemen, shaking their hands. many of them not able to walk anymore. they have been wheeled around. wheeled in front of tombstones. there's a lot of emotion there. as they're seeing the names as, you know, one time, some of their best friends. >> and it's history, lauren. i know you've got to go. is there anything else that really stood out to you about what is happening out there today? >> well, dave. let me show you a little bit of video of something that we got to see. the president went out and

looked over omaha beach. and while they were out there. president trump and president macron, they were shown six different flyovers. you should be able to see one of those flyovers. we were able to capture from where we are in the cemetery. really just amazing stuff to see. some of these planes are world war ii era. there are current ones. french planes. american planes all coming together. folks here. i mean, every head was turned toward the sky. >> what a report. >> lauren blanchard reporting live for us from normandy, france. lauren, thank you. one person is in custody, after a high-speed chase on the peninsula. the chp tried to pull over a mercedes driving west in san mateo county, near interstate 280 late last night. instead of pulling over, the driver took off. and at one point, hit speeds of 120 miles an hour. that chase ended when the car flipped over near the black mountain road. officers were able to catch

welcome back to mornings on 2. well, san francisco city leaders want to transform a tenderloin street corner and turn it into a foody destination. the corner of hyde and golden gate is well known for drug activity. but the city wants to transform the old post office on that corner into a food marketplace. a nonprofit group called lacochinna helps female entrepreneurs. and they plan to open a mini marketplace with restaurants inside. >> it will be a 7,000 square- foot building that will house seven of our entrepreneurs, where they'll be able to cook and prepare all week. >> the hope is to attract a steady flow of customers and push out the drug activity, make it move someplace else. the marketplace is expected to open this winter. oakland's planning commission is about to start considering one of the biggest development projects infer west

oakland. if approved, the project will be built on kirk ham street near the west oakland bart station. it includes a 23-story tower. two smaller buildings and will create more than 1,000 apartments and a job development center on the ground floor. now, there will also be room for cafes and other businesses. and city staff says the developer has consulted the neighborhood and so far, there's very little opposition to that project. >> our time is 6:46. people are speaking out in the south bay. they're pretty angry about the union pacific railroad, which is accused of ruining the quality of life in san jose, with train noise. the city may even sue union pacific. but the railroad says federal laws protect the railroad. ktvu's azenith smith has that story. it's a quality of life issue. union pacific starting running more at night to cut costs. at a community meeting wednesday night, families held

news. in today's dollars and cents, amazon says it plans to deliver drones to deliver packages to shoppers in the coming months. they can deliver package that are less than 5 pounds and will arrive in less than 30 minutes after leaving the warehouse. they take off and land vertically. and use what amazon is calling computer vision to navigate the dropoff. we don't know where amazon will start the drone deliveries. facebook is soon getting into the financial world. facebook will install atms for digital currency. it is expected to help users buy and sell items internationally. despite a strong labor market. a lot of people still need to find a side job to get by. three in 10 americans working with a side job say they need the extra income to help cover the cost of regular living expenses. overall, 40% of american workers report having a gig outside of their primary job.

highway 24 now. westbound. if you're getting on the road. it's getting a little crowded. it's moving, though. a lot of people with you. but it's still moving along into orinda and over into oakland. so nothing to worry about, except it is getting more and more crowded by the moment. when you get to the bay bridge. it's okay. it's taken about oh, 30 minutes or so to drive from the carquinez bridge to the maze. this is a look at 880 in front of oracle. you can see traffic is moving well. southbound 680 has been a mess out of pleasanton. you leave out of pleasanton. it's going to be slow from 580 down through. there was also a crash at sunol boulevard. but really, the big problem is southbound at bernal, where they have the cleanup. a truck accident. hayward to union city. southbound at 880. it's slow until about union city. until it gets clo in fremont as well. 6:51. >> a big cooldown.

officially. but i've seen 51 in a couple of locations. all 50s here yesterday. livermore, san jose were in the 60s at this time. in fact, livermore was 64, 65. didn't take long for them to warm up today. they're minus 9, compared to 24- hour temperature change. still gusts at 30 out at travis. so the delta breeze is kicking up its heels west at oakland. 51, the water temp, bodega bay, and 53 in san francisco. and when it's that cold, the lows get that cold. that's why it works that way. thunderstorm activities, mainly going to be confined in the central sierra. it's close. just in case you're heading up that direction. i think it will be quieter today. 50s, 60s on the temps. but mainly 50s. and the low clouds. and onshore wind for some, with that system sweeping by to the north. it will allow cooler temperatures. the high gets kicked out for two days. today and tomorrow. cooler, with the low clouds back with the onshore wind. and as it settles in, again, looks like it kicks right back up again on the weekend.
